Bladder Cancer


Bladder Cancer Bladder cancer forms in the lining of your bladder, the round organ in your pelvis that stores urine. The doctors at Urology Specialists of Wisconsin are experts in treating bladder cancer and are ready to help you manage this disease.


Symptoms.
The most common symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine (hematuria).

 

Treatments. Bladder cancer can be treated in many ways. Urology Specialists of WI can help determine the best treatment for you.

  • Cystoscopy evaluation – An examination of the bladder using a thin, lighted telescope, inserted through the urethra
  • TUR-BT (transurethral resection of the bladder tumor) – Surgery done using a special telescope to remove cancerous growths from the bladder
  • Cystectomy – Surgery done to remove all or part of the bladder, as well as nearby organs that may contain cancer cells
  • Immunotherapy (also known as “BCG therapy” or “biological therapy”) – A bacteria solution instilled into the bladder that stimulates the immune system to kill cancer cells
  • Intravesical chemotherapy – Cancer-killing drugs that are instilled into the bladder
  • Radiation therapy – A treatment that uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells
